Tigers Jump To No. 2 In South Region Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of West Alabama baseball team gained a spot in this week’s edition of the NCAA Division II Baseball South Region poll.  UWA moved into second in the rankings after entering the top 10 list at No. 3 in the initial listing, announced by the NCAA Baseball committee last week.

The Tigers have tabulated a 24-10 mark in the region after picking up three region wins last week.  UWA entered Wednesday’s mid-week doubleheader with Stillman College with a 32-11 overall worksheet.  The Red and White close out the Gulf South Conference season this weekend, hosting West Georgia.  The season-ending series begins on Saturday, April 25.  First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

The Muleriders of Southern Arkansas maintained their grip on the top spot in the poll with an overall mark of 41-7.  SAU, riding a 20-game win streak, is also the top-ranked team in both the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll and in the PING! rankings.  GSC East foe UAH ranks sixth in the listing, followed by Valdosta State in the eight hole.  GSC West opponent Delta State rounds out the top 10.

Tournament champions from the GSC, SSC and Southern Intercollegiate Conference comprise three of the eight bids to the South Regional, May 14-17. The remaining at-large slots are awarded to the five highest-ranked teams in the region. The top-rated team is eligible to host the four day Tournament, providing it placed a bid to host and have adequate facilities and accommodations for teams and fans.
