INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The 13th-ranked
University of West Alabama baseball team has
received an at-large bid to the 2008 NCAA
Division II South Central Regional May 15-18
in Cleveland, Miss. at Dave “Boo” Ferriss Field.
#3 seed UWA will face #4 seed Abilene
Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15.
This marks
the sixth berth in an NCAA Regional for UWA
(45-11) and the first since 2006. The
Tigers, which have tied the school record
for wins at 45, are 8-7 in their five previous
appearances.
Delta
State, the Gulf South Conference Tournament
Champion, earned the automatic bid and are
the top seed and tournament host. Southern
Arkansas is the second seed with Abilene
Christian as the fourth. 2007 top seed
Ouachita Baptist is the fifth seed with
Texas A&M at Kingsville, who received an
automatic bid as winners of the Lone Star
Conference, rounding out the field for the
South Central Region.
The winner of the NCAA South Central Region
Tournament will advance to the NCAA Division
II College World Series May 24-31 at GCS
Park in Sauget, Ill. GCS Park is home to the
Frontier League’s Gateway Grizzlies. The
park is located just outside the St. Louis,
Mo., metropolitan area.
Tickets for the upcoming NCAA South Central
Regional Baseball Tournament hosted by Delta
State are on sale now through the DSU
Athletics box office. Only All-Tournament
passes will be pre-sold. The All Tournament
Package is $25 for adults and $6 for senior
citizens and students. Championship game
tickets are $10 and $8 respectively. For
