BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
University of West
Alabama pitcher Brandon Dill was named
Gulf South Conference East Division
Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the
conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
This marks the sixth time a UWA baseball
player has received a weekly honor from
the GSC and the third time that Dill has
received the honor. Tres Avans and Rob
Dahlberg have each claimed Player of the
Week laurels and Schmitt, along with
Dill, have received Pitcher of the Week
honors.
Dill, a Columbus, Miss.-native, helped
the Tigers to a series sweep of West
Florida over the weekend. The senior,
right-hander pitched eight innings in a
9-3 win over the Argos, recording a
career-high tying nine strikeouts to
pick up his sixth win of the season.
Dill
is
second on the team in wins, with six,
while posting a 1.000 winning
percentage.
The sweep of West Florida improved West
Alabama to 33-8 on the season and 8-4 in
the GSC, which is tied for second in the
GSC East Division with Montevallo.
West Alabama returns to action on
Monday, April 14, as the Tigers host
Lambuth University. The game against
Lambuth is an addition to the 2008
schedule. First pitch of the contest
against the Eagles is scheduled for 6:30
p.m.
