Dill Receives Third Pitcher of the Week Honor from GSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of West Alabama pitcher Brandon Dill was named Gulf South Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.

This marks the sixth time a UWA baseball player has received a weekly honor from the GSC and the third time that Dill has received the honor. Tres Avans and Rob Dahlberg have each claimed Player of the Week laurels and Schmitt, along with Dill, have received Pitcher of the Week honors.

Dill, a Columbus, Miss.-native, helped the Tigers to a series sweep of West Florida over the weekend. The senior, right-hander pitched eight innings in a 9-3 win over the Argos, recording a career-high tying nine strikeouts to pick up his sixth win of the season. Dill is second on the team in wins, with six, while posting a 1.000 winning percentage.

The sweep of West Florida improved West Alabama to 33-8 on the season and 8-4 in the GSC, which is tied for second in the GSC East Division with Montevallo.

West Alabama returns to action on Monday, April 14, as the Tigers host Lambuth University. The game against Lambuth is an addition to the 2008 schedule. First pitch of the contest against the Eagles is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
