LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama baseball
team returns to the diamond on
Wednesday, March 18, as UWA (16-8)
meets Delta State in Pearl, Miss.
for the third annual game at
Trustmark Park. First pitch is
scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and will be
broadcasted on WZNJ 106.5-FM and at
athletics.uwa.edu.
Wednesday’s affair marks the 107th
meeting between the two schools with
DSU (16-9) holding the advantage at
74-32, but each has claimed five
games in the last 10 meetings. The
Statesmen won the last outing in the
NCAA South Central Regional last
year, 9-7, but UWA has claimed both
contests at Trustmark Park. The two
institutions three-game series in
Cleveland earlier this season was
canceled due to weather
complications.
UWA enters Wednesday's affair riding
a five-game win streak that includes
two wins over the University of
Alabama in Huntsville over the
weekend that moved the Tigers to the
top of the GSC East Division after
the first week of conference play.
Brian Simone has been the big bat
for the Tigers in the last five
games, batting .500 during the span
with three homeruns and a double,
while driving in seven runs. Rob
Dahlberg continues to guide the
offense on the season with a .435
batting average while posting 19
RBI.
The Statesmen are led at the plate
by Devin Goodwin’s .391 batting
clip. The Demopolis, Ala.-native
leads the team with 34 hits, while
driving in 25 runs. DSU arrives in
Pearl, Miss. on a 10-game win
streak, including a three-game sweep
over Ouachita Baptist this weekend
to open conference play.
Following the midweek event, West
Alabama returns to GSC play, as the
Tigers travel to Montevallo, Ala. to
face the Falcons. The three-game
weekend series starts with a
doubleheader on Saturday, starting
at 1:00 p.m. The game will be
broadcasted on WZNJ 106.5-FM and at
athletics.uwa.edu.
