BIRMINGHAM,
Ala. – The
University of West
Alabama’s Brian
Burgess was named
Gulf South
Conference East
Division Pitcher of
the Week by the
conference office on
Tuesday afternoon
for his efforts
during the past week
against the
University of
Arkansas at
Monticello and at
North Alabama.
Burgess, a
Huntsville,
Ala.-native,
picked up two saves
on the week,
including holding
off North Alabama in
a key, divisional
3-2 win. The two
saves moved Burgess
into a tie for
fourth all-time at
UWA. The sophomore
pitched 3 1/3
innings, allowing no
runs and striking
out six on the week.
The win at UNA
clinched the Tigers
atleast the
third seed in the
East.
This marks the
fourth time a Tiger
has received a
weekly honor and is
the second pitcher
to do so this
season, as Matt Hill
received the
accolade on April 7.
Rob Dahlberg and
Jody Morgan were
each honored earlier
this season as
Players of the Week.
West Alabama returns
to action on
Wednesday, Apr. 22,
as UWA travels to
Stillman College for
a region,
doubleheader. This
marks a return
appearance to
Stillman for UWA, as
the Tigers dropped a
10-9 contest earlier
this season at SC.
First pitch is
scheduled for 2:00
