LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The 12th-ranked University of
West Alabama baseball team completed the sweep of
Arkansas Tech on Sunday afternoon, turning back the
Wonder Boys (8-6) 12-1 at Tartt Field. The sweep was
the first since the Tigers (12-3) opened the season
taking three from Columbus State.
UWA posted 11 of
its 12 runs in the first four innings of the
contest, including a six-run second inning to break
the game open. Three Tigers recorded multiple-RBI in
the contest with Rob Dahlberg and Tres Avans each
totaling three and Jake DeRoy driving in two.
The first Red and
White run came when Avans doubled to right center,
scoring Jeremy Finney. Todd Rea followed with a
single through the left side to plate Dahlberg and
give UWA a 2-0 lead. In the second inning, DeRoy
singled to left field to score Dallas Rogers and
Cory Houston for the first two of six runs in the
inning. Dahlberg then tripled down the right field
line, scoring DeRoy and Finney for the 6-0 lead.
Avans followed with a single to left field, scoring
Dahlberg, before crossing the plate on a Nick
Wheeler single to right center to complete the
scoring in the inning.
Dahlberg placed a
single through the right side, in the third inning,
to score Finney, as DeRoy scored on an Avans
sacrifice fly to solidify the two runs. Phillip
Merryman accounted for the final two Red and White
runs of the contest, scoring on an error by the ATU
first baseman in the fourth inning and hitting his
second homerun of the season in the eighth inning.
The Wonder Boys
plated its only run of the contest in the seventh
inning, as Hayden Miller doubled to right center to
score Brad Green.
Brandon Dill (3-0)
picked up the win on the hill, pitching five innings
while allowing three hits and fanning three. Cole
Thornton, Clint Smith, Adam Patterson and Josh
Turner each saw one inning of action for UWA.
West Alabama
returns to action on Wednesday, February 27, as the
Tigers host Stillman College in a doubleheader.
First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
