#12 UWA Completes Sweep of Arkansas Tech

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 12th-ranked University of West Alabama baseball team completed the sweep of Arkansas Tech on Sunday afternoon, turning back the Wonder Boys (8-6) 12-1 at Tartt Field. The sweep was the first since the Tigers (12-3) opened the season taking three from Columbus State.

UWA posted 11 of its 12 runs in the first four innings of the contest, including a six-run second inning to break the game open. Three Tigers recorded multiple-RBI in the contest with Rob Dahlberg and Tres Avans each totaling three and Jake DeRoy driving in two.

The first Red and White run came when Avans doubled to right center, scoring Jeremy Finney. Todd Rea followed with a single through the left side to plate Dahlberg and give UWA a 2-0 lead. In the second inning, DeRoy singled to left field to score Dallas Rogers and Cory Houston for the first two of six runs in the inning. Dahlberg then tripled down the right field line, scoring DeRoy and Finney for the 6-0 lead. Avans followed with a single to left field, scoring Dahlberg, before crossing the plate on a Nick Wheeler single to right center to complete the scoring in the inning.

Dahlberg placed a single through the right side, in the third inning, to score Finney, as DeRoy scored on an Avans sacrifice fly to solidify the two runs. Phillip Merryman accounted for the final two Red and White runs of the contest, scoring on an error by the ATU first baseman in the fourth inning and hitting his second homerun of the season in the eighth inning.

The Wonder Boys plated its only run of the contest in the seventh inning, as Hayden Miller doubled to right center to score Brad Green.

Brandon Dill (3-0) picked up the win on the hill, pitching five innings while allowing three hits and fanning three. Cole Thornton, Clint Smith, Adam Patterson and Josh Turner each saw one inning of action for UWA.

West Alabama returns to action on Wednesday, February 27, as the Tigers host Stillman College in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
