JACKSON, Miss. —
It took six
matches before West Alabama broke
into the win column, snapping a
six-match losing streak after
beating host Belhaven College, 3-1,
and Rhodes College, 3-1, Saturday at
the Belhaven Volleyball Tournament.
In both
matches, the Tigers dropped the
opening game, but bounced back to
win the next three. Against
Belhaven, West Alabama lost the
first game, 31-29, but responded
with scores of: 30-18, 30-16, 30-21,
to give head coach Ron Arenz his
first victory of the season.
The Tigers
started the second match of the day
against Rhodes College sluggish,
losing, 30-13, but answered with
three straight games, 30-24, 30-26,
30-24, giving West Alabama (2-6) a
two-match winning streak.
Friday, during
the opening day of the tournament,
West Alabama lost a heartbreaker to
Loyola University, 3-2, with scores
of: 26-30, 18-30, 30-21, 30-26,
14-16. In the second match of the
day, the Tigers fell to Lyon
College, 3-1, with scores of: 23-30,
23-30, 21-30, 30-27.
West Alabama
heads to Huntsville, Ala. this
weekend for the UAH-Country Inn
Suites Volleyball Tournament. |
